APPLICATIONS |
||
The term hydrocortisone is for cortisol (an adrenocortical steroid) when used as
a pharmaceutical. Cortisol is one of main hormones released by the body in
response to stress. It affects blood pressure and blood sugar levels and
regulates the immune system. It is involved in the metabolism of glucose,
protein, and fats. Synthetic hydrocortisone and its esters are used primarily
for their anti-inflammatory in allergic rashes, eczema and certain other
inflammatory conditions. It is used as an immunosuppressive in the treatment of
allergic and dermatologic disorders, adrenocortical insufficiency and many other
disorders.
